Stairwell

Okay, well, at the beginning of the school year last year, I just started a graduate program, and so I’m getting my master’s degree in neurophysiology, which, normally people assume that neurophysiology means you…kind of are smart in some sort of way? Except for me, I’m definitely the exception for this rule, so…The first day of classes, I had to have, you know, a lab meeting for research, so I was meeting with my kids that I teach and stuff like that and it was a really important day, and I was in my research building for the first time ever; I didn’t know they were doing construction on it, so I went to the stairwell to leave from the fourth floor, you know to get out? I got locked in the stairwell…For three hours, (laughter). So…It was awful! And I had to…I didn’t get any cell phone reception so nobody could come get me, I knocked on the door and people would just look at me and I think they thought I was kind of crazy or something, ‘cause nobody let me in, so finally I had to press the call button inside the stairwell, and the police officer comes on, and they’re like, “Can I help you?” And I was like, “I’m trapped in a stairwell…” And they’re like, “…In a stairwell?”  And I said, “Yes. I am trapped in this stairwell.” And they came looking for me and they looked in all the elevators because nobody gets trapped in a stairwell, come on!  And finally, three hours later, after I missed my lab meeting and every single one of my student conferences…they finally found me in this stairwell, and I had to have a police escort me back to my advisor, and they had to write a police report up…Because I got trapped in a stairwell, they thought I was a lunatic.
