a 73-year-old male from Bethany Beach, Delaware

Two Cute Stories

Ummm. [Pause] I came from New York City. My sister invited me to Bethany Beach in 1977, and I came here, and I said. When I came to Bethany Beach, I looked around, I said, "This is the place that I'm gonna retire." So that was 32 years ago. And I own a home here; I'm retired here. I made that decision on the first day I came to Bethany.

Me: So you're living here now?

Guy: I live here now.

Me: Thank you very much--

Guy: Okay, and the other story is, when my mother came, she was in her eighties. And we brought her up on Wellington--up the street there. And to get on the beach at that time you had to climb over the sand dune. So we had dragged my 87-year-old mother over the sand dune, on the beach, pull up [?] the chair. When we brought her out we had to drag her up on the sand dune again, and it was a, it was a hassle.

So my sister went to the town hall and commented that the beach was not friendly for the elderly. The next year they put up that ramp on Wellington. So that Wellington was put up because my sister complained about my mother.

Now they have the ramp and they have a rolling cart for elderly people.

Me: I had no idea.

Guy: So that's two cute stories about Bethany.
